Cake Smash Prep Guide
Cake Smash Client Guide
Planning your baby’s FIRST BIRTHDAY feels a little crazy! Exciting, bittersweet and important! Why it has to go by so fast, I wish I knew, but I’m happy to help you document all those little cute details at this stage of their “babyhood".
The theme is up to you! I’m willing to work with you on any theme or color choices you might have. I love everything from minimalist to whimsical while keeping the main focus on your little one. Sometimes, the theme or colors is related to their nursery decor. Sometimes, parents will use their birthday theme for their cake smash. It’s typically a combo of what I have and what you have to make up the set!
After we have planned out your theme, outfits, and cake I will let you know what I have and what I’ll need you to bring. You’ll definitely provide the cute baby, the cake, a towel and 2 outfits.
Cake Smash Sessions typically take about 40 mins including bath time, although we block off up to 1 hour. We will start with portraits, then cake smashing, and finish off with a quick little “tub time” bubble bath!
I encourage a separate, neutral outfit for portraits at the beginning of the session unless getting changed is baby's least favorite activity. Please avoid bright colors, busy patterns, and logos as they are distracting from your little one's natural beauty. You have the option to bring your child’s outfit or I may have something in my client closet for baby to wear, just ask!
After a few clean face portraits it will be time to change baby in to his/her smashing outfit. You will be asked to bring a bottle or sippy cup and a favorite dry snack such as Cheerios or Puffs in case baby needs a little incentive to dig in; most do.
When baby is finished smashing it’s time for the splash --- baby will get all cleaned up in a bubble bath. These photos are taken on the same setup as the cake smash; most babies love the splash! I always buy sensitive skin baby soap, just in case. Parents will want to dress in clothing they don’t t mind getting messy in or bring a change of clothes.
Ready to book?
Great! The earlier you book, the more time we will have to plan for your custom set up. If you need images for a birthday party I would suggest booking the session 3 weeks prior to have time to edit and print your gallery.
